Minor Heat

2025-07-07

Today is "Minor Heat", one of the 24 solar terms. Minor Heat is the fifth solar term in summer, marking the official start of midsummer. The weather continues to be hot and humid, which can easily lead to "steaming up and boiling down". It is advisable to keep indoor air circulating and avoid over-reliance on air conditioning, which may cause cold air to invade the body.

Dishes made with seasonal vegetables include:

Vegetarian corn and carrot soup

Vegetarian eggplant casserole with fish sauce

Steamed pumpkin slices with minced garlic

July seasonal crop harvest table

Beans

Green beans, white beans

Leafy vegetables

Cauliflower, Shanghai cabbage, Chinese cabbage, corn, Italian lettuce, eggplant, mustard greens, okra, amaranth, water spinach

Melons

Cucumber, bitter melon, gourd, wax gourd, loofah, winter melon, pumpkin

Herbs

Chives, lemon balm, lemongrass, mint, parsley, chili pepper, basil

As "seasonal" vegetables change, the advantage of choosing seasonal vegetables is that they are planted and harvested at the most appropriate time, require fewer pesticides and taste better; and because they are "in season", the yield is higher and the price is lower.
